The role of women in the Egyptian Red Crescent

Women played an important and effective role in the Egyptian Red Crescent Society since its inception. The first volunteer and donor to the association was Mrs. Mary Trad, who donated five pounds to Sheikh Ali Youssef, "founder of the National Society 1911," the women formed a committee known as the "Egyptian Red Crescent Women Committee" and it was the first The head of the committee is Princess Farouk (King Farouk's sister), and their role was clearly evident during the Second World War, in treating the wounded, preparing housing for them, and equipping fixed and mobile kitchens that distribute food for free to the victims of the raids.
Not only that, they supervised the Palestinian refugee camp in Abbasiya and provided the necessary clothes and foodstuffs and closely followed their health and in the wars that Egypt went through, the women donated time, effort and money. From 18 vehicles that contained 1500 blankets, 5000 galabiyas, and food supplies for Port Said residents, and they worked on forming committees specialized in medical support, helping immigrants, a correspondence committee, and specialized in exchanging messages between prisoners.
The women also cooperated with the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Egypt to communicate with the prisoners, and finally the women of the Red Crescent represented the Society abroad, so they attended conferences, and provided relief to some foreign countries, in addition to the social institutions that they established to provide social services, and it was the social role of the Society and the women of the Crescent Al Ahmar has a great influence in standing side by side with the government in overcoming crises.
