National Disaster Response Team

The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) works in the field of disaster relief guided with its disaster management plan of action which covers the four Consecutive phases; Preparedness, Response, Rehabilitation and Development.

ERC youth and volunteers are the backbone in relief operation; therefore they are prepared and trained in order to be able to conduct their role effectively. Basic training on first aid, civil defense, psychological support, Sphere and temporary sheltering are mandatory for all volunteers. More advanced training is given to the specialized teams in disaster management and emergency response.

National Disaster Response Team (NDRT) is one of these specialized teams that were established in 2012 in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent aiming to ensure more timely and efficient intervention in case of disasters at the national level.

The team consists of young men and women ERC volunteers from different governorates. The training, which was held in South Sinai at ERC training center in "Abu-Redis" focused mainly on basic humanitarian needs in disaster response, shelter standards, intervention plans and exit strategy. Restoring family links, international humanitarian law were also included.

The training included both theoretical and practical sessions in addition to a simulation exercise on temporary shelter.
